Human Rights Council
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system made up of 47 States responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe. The UNHRC is the successor to the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR, herein CHR), and is a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly. The council works closely with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and engages the United Nations’ special procedures.

As an alumnus of St.Josephs’ Boys High School and Vidya Niketan school, this MUNer has been born and bred in the Bangalore Circuit. Apart from which, he has gained delegate and Executive Board experience in both domestic and international circuits.
Known for his suave lobbying skills, he can sway you to his position with the fewest words possible. He has the innate ability to convince audiences and his fellow delegates of his point of view almost effortlessly. He often values such a skill in delegates in the committee which he chairs. As a passionate chef and current student of B.A. Culinary Arts at Manipal University, he values precision and technicality, which he brings to the table as a delegate and even admires in a lot of co-delegates. As a chairperson, he ensures that the quality of the outcome documents produced by his committee is extremely high. He also lends a helping hand to delegates who are just starting out, which is one of his fundamental beliefs to being a chairperson. He also believes in creating a holistic learning experience for all of the delegates of his committee, while learning and growing along with them himself. As a passionate Manchester United and football fan, he believes that strategy is the cornerstone to being a successful delegate. Reading and research, are one of his pro-tips to achieving success, which he often employs both as an Executive Board member and as a delegate. Vaibhav Bhat is really excited to be a part of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Rights Council for OakMUN 2017. As a delegate, HRC has always been his first love. Writing chits, making draft resolutions and working papers along with striking negotiations in unmods has always kept him busy during conferences. He feels learning and gaining experience are the most important aims which one should have while doing an MUN and believes that, for learning, an eternity is not enough. Apart from debates and MUNs, he likes watching sitcoms and romcoms. He is a big fan of How I Met Your Mother and Friends. His favourite movie is Serendipity. His favourite sport is cricket. He likes listening to slow music. He is the most supportive and understanding Executive Board member you will ever come across. He deems it a privilege to serve as the Assistant Director for the HRC, and is looking forward to three days of exciting debate and an unforgettable learning experience.
