Economic and Social Council
Established in 1945, The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
ADDRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN CONFLICT PRONE REGIONS
Harishankar, commonly known as Hari, hails from Chennai and is currently pursuing his final year engineering at SRM University, Ramapuram campus. He has done more than 50 Model United Nations in various capacities in committees ranging from SC to WTO across India, notably IIT Mumbai, NIT Allahabad, PSG Coimbatore, IIT Bhubaneswar, BITS Hyderabad, and VIT Vellore, to name a few. He was the Secretary-General for the maiden edition of SRMRMUN and the founder of MUNs in his college. Apart from MUNs, he is also a mimicry artist and an avid speaker.
Tanmmay Rout is a first year student, pursuing mechanical engineering at SRM Ramapuram. He has attended over 20 MUNs in total in the capacity of a delegate and an Executive Board member. Though he is quite notorious as a delegate, he is very dedicated as an Executive Board member. He is well-versed with the nuances of the United Nations and has a special affinity towards the Security Council. He has represented and won as nations from both ends of the political spectrum and has participated in committees ranging from UNEP to the OSCE. Apart from MUNs, he is an avid artist and loves gaming and very often indulges in healthy banters about everything and anything he comes across.
